The Brief

Discover and nurture digital & tech based ideas that support positive mental health and resilience in young people, through a 6 month innovation accelerator programme.

Also to develop a programme model which can be rolled out to other sectors and impact challenge areas.

Our Approach

We worked with key partners Creative England and the West of England Academic Health Science Network, plus delivery partners Off The Record, Simpleweb and Bulbshare, to fully project manage the Create Open Health programme.

As part of the programme we designed and organised the content and delivery schedule, plus the full application and assessment process, organised a 2 day idea development bootcamp with a tech hack, and facilitated ongoing support for the ideas to flourish. We also worked closely with the partner marketing teams to ensure stakeholder engagement and applicant acquisition through targeted marketing campaigns.

The programme encouraged entrepreneurs to apply, along with those from within the healthcare sector, the NHS and the general public. We designed the programme with an open innovation approach - targeting a wide range of applicant types to encourage diversity in ideas submitted.

Impact

Part funded by the Wellcome Trust, we hit several KPIs in delivery including diversity metrics and volume of applications. We took 12 ideas through to a bootcamp stage, where they received two days worth of free idea development support, including a technical hack and a chance to meet the experts who could make their ideas a reality. Two of those ideas then received additional support as part of the programme, and our partners continue to track and develop their ideas today. Everyone who did not win the additional support were offered mentoring opportunities and tailored advice to encourage further development.

We have also reached a stage where we have been able to test, improve and execute a successful prototype model with significant learnings for future programmes.
