2022: Good work with good people
In the year that Disruptive Thinking turned 5, and as 2022 draws to an end, it feels like the natural time to reflect on what we’ve loved in the last 12 months, and what we’re looking forward to in 2023.
We’ve welcomed excellent clients, new members of the team and worked on our own initiatives too. This growth has brought a real momentum to the business - our capacity has increased and we’ve brought in new specialisms.
As a new year rolls around, we are thankful to be surrounded by brilliant and kind people in our team and our clients. A huge thank you to all those we’ve worked with this year, and those we’ll work with next year too!
What we’ve been grateful for
We’ve been lucky to work on some really exciting projects with some excellent clients this year - it’s been amazing to help them strategise and implement plans, that have in turn seen them witness real growth across the board. We’re also so grateful to our team, who take on these challenges with gusto and authentic positive energy. It really has been a year for living out our motto of good work with good people.
What’s on our minds
With Christmas being a time when the ideas of togetherness and family are all around us, our thoughts go to those who don’t find this easy. Earlier this year we partnered with Play It Green, who use our donations to not only offset our carbon, but support a charity of our choice. This year we’ve been backing AKT, an organisation that helps combat homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth. The work they do is phenomenal and with the rising costs of living more important than ever, we’re so pleased to be able to help them.
What’s made us smile
September saw the launch of one of the loveliest projects with The Wow Company - the Beautiful Business Community, a platform for like-minded leaders to connect, share resources, network and get the conversations flowing on how we can all make business more beautiful. As part of this, we hosted the first Beautiful Business Summit, with interactive workshops and expert-led keynote speakers. We have loads more amazing content planned for the new year too - watch this space!
What’s made us laugh (in a good way)
We’ve loved working with our new client Sopro this year, managing their social media campaigns for them. Vic, Frosina and the rest of the team have been an absolute delight to work alongside, welcoming us into the team and sharing their hilarious videos that kept us laughing each week. As well as the day-to-day running of their social accounts, we delved into social strategy and loved seeing positive results at the end of each quarter!
What’s made us proud
It was an honour working with the West of England Academic Health Science Network (WEAHSN) and Bladder and Bowel Health Integration Team at Bristol Health Partners on a really insightful report that presented the lived experiences of people living with bladder and bowel conditions. The research and report highlighted the support needed, and working with the WEAHSN team is always a joy. Playing just a small part in this was such a rewarding experience and reminded us of the potential impact of our work.
What we’ve been listening to
We’ve loved working on the Beautiful Business podcast and it’s made us very aware of the time and effort that goes into crafting a good series. For listens, we’ve continued to reference and recommend to folks the Jon Richardson and The Futurenauts podcast. It’s not the newest and the references back to early covid lockdowns stirs some mixed emotions. The humour and intellect the hosts bring to discussing some of the biggest challenges we face as individuals, communities, societies and even as a species is both sombering enough to articulate the challenges we face but heartening enough to inspire us to change. That Richardson records from a pub (his shed) called the Dog and Bastard says it all really.
What we’ve been reading
Solve for Happy: Engineer Your Path to Joy is a great read. This book, written by an ex-Google engineer, applies his engineering expertise to work out the equation for happiness. This isn’t some sort of snake-oil sales story but more of a fascinating tale of how one person of significant business standing and built wealth, with a deeply logical and data-driven approach, tackles something that has no such empirical measurement - his emotions. That the story includes how he lost his college-aged son during a routine surgery adds poignancy.
What’s next
We’ve been looking to launch Devon Co-working space down in Kingsbridge in South Devon, where co-founder Yiuwin lives. It’s an absolutely stunning part of the country, which we all fell in love with on a company away day there in October. With many more people seeing the real benefits of remote working, we are keen to create a hub for entrepreneurs and homeworkers looking to get out of the house and connect with people in their area. Sign up above for updates.
Another project in the pipeline is developing our digital transformation service, Digital Firm, for businesses looking to get up to speed with the latest digital marketing and workflow practices, from email campaigns and automation to web content and SEO audits. We’re really excited to see where this goes - if you or anyone you know might be interested in this please do drop us an email.
For now, we wish all of you a good, well-deserved break and look forward to seeing more of you in the new year.
