Why we’ve joined the MotherBoard Charter: A commitment to support and accountability
At Disruptive, we believe that innovation starts with questioning the status quo. And when it comes to workplace inclusivity, particularly for parents, we need to contribute to doing better. That’s why we’ve joined the MotherBoard Charter, which aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive workplace and holding ourselves accountable for creating lasting, positive change.
Why it’s important to Disruptive Thinking:
The ethos of the MotherBoard Charter aligns with our commitment to creating meaningful change, to both challenge outdated workplace practices and ensure that parents are supported, valued, and able to thrive in their careers without sacrificing family life.
With both full and part-time working parents within the Disruptive team, creating a culture of flexibility and recognition that goes beyond the conventional accommodations is extremely important to us. Most workplaces haven’t kept up with the realities of modern family life, and the MotherBoard Charter encourages us to rewrite those rules.
The need for inclusivity and flexibility:
Businesses must evolve to create environments where parents can succeed. Being a parent should not be viewed as an obstacle to being innovative or impactful. It’s crucial that workplaces acknowledge this. By joining Motherboard, we’re committed to fostering a culture where parents, and especially mothers, are supported to be both incredible professionals and amazing caregivers.
Future-proofing the workplace:
At Disruptive we can fully appreciate the need to future-proof roles and workplaces by ensuring they are designed to support the needs of parents. This means creating flexible, inclusive environments where parents can achieve professionally without sacrificing family life, and where the structures are in place to empower future generations of working parents.
Why it matters to our Operations Director, Jenny Howell:
As a mum, I know firsthand the challenges of balancing a career with raising children. Society often treats these as separate spheres, but they are intricately linked. For me, the MotherBoard charter reflects my belief that parents shouldn't have to choose between being present for their families and thriving in their careers.
I want my children to grow up in a world where the workplace is flexible, empathetic, and inclusive where no parent or mother feels they have to compromise their personal life for professional success. Joining this movement is about shaping that future for them.
We’re excited to be a part of the MotherBoard charter and to help drive change, not just in the workplace but in societal expectations around parenthood and professionalism. This is just the beginning of the journey towards real, lasting change.
